A doctor from Houston posted a story on social media network on 9th October 2016 and indicated that she tried to help a passenger during an in-flight emergency. She mentioned that she was refused by flight attendants due to they didn’t believe that she was a physician and the major cause was her ethnic background. A gynecologist and childbirth assistant, Tamika Cross is a black woman and she expressed her experience on her Facebook page. She indicated that she was on Delta flight DL945 and someone was screaming for help, but her husband was unresponsive. There wasn’t anyone tried to help her so I naturally decided to help her husband. But, when I unbuckle my seatbelt and ready to stand up, the flight attendant said “everyone to stay calm, he will be alright”.

She mentioned that after a couple of minutes, he was again unresponsive then flight attendant shouted “call overhead for a physician on board”. I raised my hands, but she said to me “oh no sweetie put your hands down, we are looking for a real physician”. Cross said that she was a physician, but attendant started a burst of questions regarding her qualifications at the time of unresponsive passenger was still in need of medical assistance. The flight attendant then allowed her to intervene with a white man. Delta airlines also responded that any kind of discrimination will never be acceptable. So, we have been in contact with Dr. Cross and one of our senior officials is reaching out for further investigation to solve the issue.
