The former governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie is expected to join a face-to-face meeting with the U.S President Donald Trump. A news outlet Axios reported that Trump has reduced his search for the next White House chief of staff. Sources informed the news website that the expected meeting will take place to discuss the role of Christie. It is noteworthy that Christie is a longtime Trump friend and fellow Republican. A source close to the president said that Christie is considered a top contender to replace outgoing Chief of Staff John Kelly. Sources informed Axios, “He’s tough; he’s an attorney; he’s politically-savvy and one of Trump’s early supporters”.

The name of Christie surfaced for the position earlier this week on various news outlets including CNN and The New York Times. It is the 2nd time during many weeks that the name of Christie was on Trump’s shortlist for a top administration job. Christie was floated as a possible replacement for former U.S Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week. Trump has nominated William Barr, who served as U.S attorney general under the administration of then-President George H.W. Bush.

Christie didn’t respond to a request for comment regarding the expected meeting. The former governor of New Jersey was considered top competitor for various high-level jobs in the administration of Trump. But, Christie has publicly expressed his interest in just 2 positions, attorney general and vice president. Christie never entertained publicly whether he would accept the job as running Trump’s White House. Christie has worked as a private lawyer and a political analyst for ABC News after leaving his governor office.
