According to a recently filed application, NASA has been looking to buy seats aboard of the Soyuz spacecraft for the year 2019. The agency basically needs to finish its dependence on the Soyuz spacecraft of Russia in the current year. But, it is important that Boeing and SpaceX are not showing their willingness to take astronauts to the ISS. The aircraft giant company Boeing had thrown back its first manned flight to the space station until December 2018, but this time can be extended due to a design imperfection with the Star-liner. Last year, a Falcon 9 was exploded on the launching pad, so SpaceX had pushed back its various plans. Both these companies have the capabilities to finalize their new defined timelines.

NASA might be looking to reserve those seats to secure their planning in case of additional delays. The step in keep getting seats on the Soyuz has been considered more expensive every year. The submitted application of NASA indicates that NASA is looking to get seats associated to Boeing. Those seats were reserved for Boeing by a lawsuit against Russian aerospace company Energia. The VP of Boeing, John Elbon issued a statement that NASA had showed some interest and two elements will go through the process in finding out if there will be an opportunity in making a deal. The “Ars Technica” also pointed out that an application was filed just before the supporter of commercial space and the Administrator of NASA Charles Bolden left the office. It is important that NASA is also looking to buy two additional seats for the year 2017 and 2018, but Russia is decreasing the ISS personnel.
