The United States would supposedly put its blimp-based missile defense system on hold, but the Russia has presented a civilian strategy for jamming cruise missiles. A report presented by “Motherboard” that the Russian military has been planning to install devices for anti-missile jamming and it is called Pole-21s on the towers of civilian cellular network. It would provide a wide area of coverage to Kremlin in the situation of missile attack by the U.S. A Russian newspaper “Lzvestiya” pointed out that this system would work using the same antennas already installed on the 250 thousands cellular towers in the country in order to cover the entire regions that are ungraspable for the navigation signals of the satellite.

A spokesperson for the Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed that this system has already been tested. If we talk about the U.S equipment such as Tomahawk missiles have built-in design with onboard anti-jamming devices projected to keep them to meet the challenges for such interference. But, it is unclear that how much would be effective a Pole-21 network. Point to be noted that deploying this system would also jam the own communication & navigation systems of Russia. Only one unnamed Russian military official informed the Russian newspaper “Lzvestiya” that just milliseconds of jamming activity would be too much in order to degrade the accuracy of a missile. Instead of its effectiveness, the U.S Army officials also believe that the planning of missile jamming has been considered a part of a massive effort of Russia for preparing itself for expected massive attack.
