Uber has everlastingly broken off the ride for hire-system that has conventionally been served by taxis. As we know that capturing a ride has never been simple especially where services such as Uber and Lyft are permitted and authorized. Payment using a credit card number stored in an app confirms that none of the riders or drivers has to worry about payment in cash. However, taxi companies were continuously trying it to push back. Now, Square is helping in the fight with a partnership in the payment process for cab drivers in Washington, D.C. Square has been considered one of the original financial payment services. The Company is offering an app and plug-in dongles to enable everyone take credit cards with a mobile device.

Point to be noted that Bloomberg has indicated that the company is not looking to get any money from Washington, D.C regarding this partnership, but just charging with a minimal transaction rate. So, taxi drivers will only need to download a meter app (approved by the Department of For-Hire Vehicles). It would enable riders to swipe, dip or tap their payment at the end of a ride. It is important that tips are also available within the app and electronic receipts can be sent using text message or email, similar to the standard Square app. So, drivers will need to shift to the new platform by 31st August 2017. It is noteworthy that taxis in Washington, D.C already have their own app and this new partnership would provide another way to stay in competition with ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft.
