The former first lady Hillary Clinton was asked by Stephen Colbert regarding efforts to impeach the U.S President Donald Trump and she embraced with chants from the audience, Lock Him Up. Colbert was speaking with Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea on his U.S talk show. Colbert asked, “We learned about the Trump-Ukraine call and the private server. Is it time to, dare I say, ‘lock him up’”? The phrase is a spin on a refrain used repeatedly by Donald Trump and his supporters during the 2016 election regarding Hillary Clinton, who was met with cheers from the audience. Hillary Clinton replied and said, “We have started an impeachment inquiry, which will look at the evidence, and I think that’s exactly what should be done”.

Hillary Clinton added, “I strongly believe that this particular incident has had such a huge impact due to we’ve known for a long time that he was a corrupt businessman who cheated people. But to see him in the office of the president, putting his own personal and political interests ahead of the national security of our country, just pierced through whatever confusion or denial people had”. The audience in the show clapped and cheered in response. The U.S President Donald Trump is currently being investigated over a phone call to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in which it is said he appeared to attempt to leverage military aid for personal political gain. Trump likened the investigation last night to a “coup”, and one designed to strip Americans of their freedoms.
