Trade talks have started to avoid a transatlantic tariffs war between the United States and the European Union, and Washington said that it must go faster as demanded. In the month of July, the U.S President Trump agreed not to impose supposed border taxes on the European firms and both sides have discussed on much better economic relations. It includes cutting tariffs on American aluminum and steel. Now, the European officials have announced that Trump administration is forcing for a much rapid pace of discussions. Haber added that she will point out that European Parliament elections will be conducted next year. So, an agreement should be finalized in a timely manner before the elections.

Trade War between EU and US

One of the U.S officials (unnamed) also confirmed that Washington is looking for trade talks to be finalized with a much faster timeline, but didn’t provide specific dates. Point to be noted that the U.S President Trump and the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker were agreed that talks should be started after their meeting in July. The recent announcement might decrease the threat of a trade war between the European Union and the United States. But, the U.S officials have shown their frustration on the slow speed during the past weeks. A spokesman of the European Commission also confirmed a meeting of the U.S-EU working group. This meeting took place during the current week but didn’t provide more details. An executive member of the German industry group BDI, Stefan Mair said that some progress had been made at the meeting, including a timetable of future talks.
