Royal Mail marks World Book Day with New Stamps & Special Postboxes

The Royal Mail has marked the 25th anniversary of World Book Day with a special postmark on 3rd March 3, 2022. The postboxes feature lines from books of Greg James, Chris Smith, Dara McAnulty, Martin Waddell, and Nadia Hussein.

These post boxes are located in Castlewellan in North Ireland and Luton, Nannerch in Flint shire, Dundee. The significant places are close to either the writer or their related work. The World Book Day event also includes artwork from the likes of Jonny Duddle (Harry Potter cover illustrator).

The organizers of World Book Day said the event could change lives through a love of books and shared reading. An organizer said we are celebrating World Book Day on March 3, 2022. The major objective of the event is to promote reading for pleasure.

Royal Mail’s Special Postboxes & Post Stamps

A representative for Royal Mail, David Gold, said the UK has presented various world-class authors and illustrators. They have created characters and written books with inspiration and entertainment for adults and children.

Gold added that the Royal Mail is proud to participate in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of World Book Day. It is an honor to work for some of the country’s well-known authors and illustrators on their postboxes.

The chief executive of World Book Day, Cassie Chaderton, said he is delighted to celebrate the event. However, the authors and illustrators from across the country will mark the 25th anniversary with Royal Mail.

He added it is amazing to find some of its featured £1 book authors and illustrators. He is hopeful that postboxes would inspire more people and families to read together. There are a few remarkable books available for children to explore.

Previous events related to World Book Day

A number of people like to read the biographies of the most famous people in history such as Martin Luther King. Some people love novels, especially horror novels to chill down their spines such as Frankenstein of Marry Shelley.

Books are a major source of knowledge than simple papers with words on them. They provide a path towards another world of imagination. Most of the famous books are full of fiction and creativity, offering incredible new things.

However, World Book Day is entirely about celebrating the amazing power of books. The event is specially designed to encourage a love of reading in children and people of all ages to celebrate the day.

World Book Day event of UNESCO

The UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization) started the World Book Day on 23rd April 1995. However, Spain first celebrated the event in 1923, to mark the death anniversary of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

Moreover, there were a few ideas for World Book Day. A Valencian writer, Vicente Clavel Andrés suggested the event should honor the author, Miguel de Cervantes. The suggestion points to the birthday (October 7) or death date (April 23) of the author.

It is important that World Book Day actually happens on other days of the year in some countries around the world. However, UNESCO originally marked the day as an international event. The United Kingdom, Ireland, and Sweden celebrate the event on different days.
