On Sunday, chief medical adviser to President Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Americans who remain unvaccinated against the coronavirus are breeding the latest outbreak of cases of the highly contagious Delta variant. He said, “We have 100 million people in this country, who are eligible to be vaccinated, who are not vaccinated. We’ve really got to get those people to change their minds, make it easy for them, convince them; do something to get them to be vaccinated because they are the ones that are breeding this outbreak”. Point to be noted that coronavirus infections, hospitalizations, and deaths have increased across the country. The Delta variant is driving the surge in areas with low vaccination rates. All hospitalized patients with Covid-19 are unvaccinated with the vaccines continuing to provide strong protection against severe illness.

Unvaccinated Americans are Breeding New Outbreak with Delta Variant

Last week, CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) updated its mask guidance. The agency recommended both vaccinated and unvaccinated Americans wear masks indoors. The recommendations were issued for areas of the country with substantial or high transmission of Covid-19. The CDC announced more details on Friday about what led to the shift. The new data shows the Delta variant outbreak in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The details said that fully vaccinated people with so-called breakthrough infections of the Delta variant can spread the virus. The report also showed the coronavirus vaccines protected against serious illness and death. Dr. Fauci also said that the study shows vaccines work and produced dual messages.

Dr. Fauci said it is the predominant message and if you are vaccinated, you are much more protected against getting infected. He said, “Unvaccinated people are completely vulnerable. If you do get infected, the likelihood of your getting a severe outcome of the infection is very low. It is much more likely that you will be either without symptoms or minimally symptomatic. So, the vaccine is doing what you want it to do. It’s protecting people from getting sick”. Fauci also confirmed that breakthrough infections are expected since no vaccine is 100% effective. Those who are vaccinated and become infected with the coronavirus experience either minimal symptoms or no symptoms at all.
