A targeted U.S airstrike killed the top Iranian general and Revolutionary Guard commander, Qassem Soleimani. Now, Iran struck back at the U.S and fired a series of ballistic missiles at 2 bases used by American and coalition forces in Iraq. The UK foreign secretary, Dominic Raab condemned the Iranian rocket attacks on the military bases in Iraq and said these bases also hosted British forces. Point to be noted that there were no British casualties and Boris Johnson has since come out in apparent support of U.S action in the region. There is a scheduled meeting between the UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab and his U.S counterpart Mike Pompeo. The meeting will take place tomorrow in Washington.

Mike Pompeo has already met with German and French officials amid the strike on Iran’s top military commander. Boris Johnson and Donald trump conducted a phone call earlier today, in which the British Prime Minister urged a de-escalation of tensions. The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called the missile strike a slap in the face of the U.S. The crowd also responded to him by chanting: “Death to America”. It is noteworthy that Iran has fired a series of ballistic missiles at 2 bases used by U.S and coalition forces in Iraq in retaliation for the killing of Qassem Soleimani. Trump tweeted shortly after the attacks and said, “All is well”!

The U.S president said an assessment of casualties was underway. Iranian state TV said, “80 American terrorists had been killed, U.S helicopters and military equipment damaged, without providing any evidence of how it obtained the information. It is important that a Ukrainian plane crashed near Tehran, in an unrelated incident, shortly after take-off and killed all on board 176 people. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vowed his government will get answers after a Ukrainian passenger jet crashed, just minutes after taking off from Iran’s capital, killing 63 Canadians.
