The Prime Minister of Nationals, Jacinda Ardern urged to immediately start CPTPP discussions with the United States. The statement comes after the U.S President Donald Trump indicated that he is now reconsidering to join the multilateral trade deal. The spokesperson of National’s Trade, Todd McClay said that he is much confident about a changed deal including the U.S could present. He said that it might be a massive victory for the people of New Zealand. He added that Jacinda Ardern should inform her Trade Minister to discuss with the Americans as soon as possible. There will be a deal with the United States under the TPP and it would be worth billions of U.S dollars, and it would create a massive number of jobs over time. But, he indicated that a signed agreement will not take place any time soon and some of the demands from the United States might be difficult to deliver for New Zealand.

 Point to be noted that Mr. Trump backed out of the deal in the year 2017. It was one of the first actions he took after taking his office. He also called the deal a “Disaster”. The Washington Post also indicated that the U.S President Trump has reportedly informed top trade officials to do what they can in getting the U.S back on board according to our terms. Mr. McClay said that the deal will be worth billions of U.S dollars and it will provide a significant amount support in creating new jobs. It is important that the CPTPP was signed earlier this year by 11 countries, including New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Japan, Brunei, Chile, Peru, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico, and Singapore. The deal hasn’t yet been approved but is likely to breeze through the Parliament of New Zealand with just the Greens voting against this deal.
