On Thursday, a New York court said that the former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos can proceed with her defamation lawsuit against the U.S President Donald Trump. The ruling by the Supreme Court’s appellate division means that the lawyers of Zervos can press ahead with a demand for Trump campaign documents and other records while they await another appeals court decision that is likely months away. The lawyers of Trump had asked to put the case freeze until the same appeals court decides whether to dismiss it or postpone it past his presidency. The lawyer of Zervos, Mariann Wang said that we are looking forward to proving the claim of Ms. Zervos that Trump lied when he maliciously attacked her for reporting his sexually abusive behavior.

The lawyer of Trump, Marc Kasowitz said that there wasn’t any valid reason for the court to deny the stay while it decided the underlying issue of whether a private citizen can sue a sitting president in a state court. He said that the order of Appellate Division is denying a stay of the case pending the resolution of this key issue is incorrect. Zervos is a California restaurateur and she appeared on Trump’s former show, “The Apprentice,” in 2006. She said that Trump subjected her to unwanted groping and kisses when she sought career advice in 2007. Trump has denied her allegations, which she first made public during his campaign in 2016.
