On Sunday, Trump’s procession made its way down the French capital’s iconic Champs-Elysees. The British newspaper The Independent reported that the women succeeded to jump over barricades and lunge toward the passing vehicles. One of them was quickly grabbed by police officers and the other succeeded to reach within about one yard of the president’s motorcade.

Reuters reported that the women were saying “Fake Peacemaker” and it was painted on their chests. Femen claimed responsibility for the demonstration. This is a radical feminist group based in Paris. The activist group frequently carries out topless stunts and protests against sexism, racism, homophobia, and various political and social issues.

It was also reported that the motorcade was stopped due to the incident, but continued along its way after a short break. Some reports have indicated that the stunt will raise concerns regarding security in Paris because world leaders from 70 nations have converged on the city to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I on Armistice Day this weekend.

The leader of Femen group, Inna Shevchenko wrote on Twitter that the stunt was designed to denounce the hypocrisy of this November 11th Armistice Day. The day was dedicated to celebrating peace with the greatest dictators, racist, homophobic, sexist and anti-liberty leaders in the world.

This group also arranged a protest in front of Arc de Triomphe. It is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. They were holding signs denouncing attendants of the weekend’s festivities as “war criminals”. The demonstrators were dragged into police vans.

On Saturday, Trump and Macron met face-to-face with the French leader calling the U.S president his “friend”. Trump said during the meeting that America needs to help Europe, but it should be fair.
