The financial consultant from Shanghai informed the judge that she only had 5,000 U.S dollars but police found 8,000 U.S dollars in her hotel room in Palm Beach, Florida. The investigators also discovered 9 flash drives, 4 SIM cards, and other electronics. She had 40,000 U.S dollars in a bank account. Zhang informed the Secret Service that she was going to use the pool at Mar-a-Lago. But, she later changed her story and said she was at the club to attend an event hosted by the United Nations Chinese Friendship Association.

But a later examination of Zhang’s communications announced that she knew the event was canceled before embarking for the United States. The event was supposed to include a dinner at Mar-a-Lago. But the event was canceled after the Miami Herald announced that one of its promoters had run a massage parlor where men paid for sex. Zhang spoke in front of the court, “I do think I did nothing wrong”. Her stay in jail since her arrest on 30 March will count towards her prison time. She will be deported after the completion of her sentence.
