On Sunday, US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that some governors have taken coronavirus restrictions too far in their states, in spite of the warnings from health officials about a second wave of the disease if social distancing measures are lifted prematurely. Trump discussed the protesters that took to the streets in some states during the recent week including Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota. They were demanding to uplift stay-at-home orders that have been implemented by governors to limit the spread of coronavirus. Trump sympathized with the protesters’ concerns and declined to denounce their demonstrations during the White House Coronavirus Task Force news conference.

Some Democratic Governors have imposed unnecessary measures to limit COVID-19

President Trump said, “Some have gone too far, some governors have gone too far. Some of the things that happened are maybe not so appropriate. And I think in the end it’s not going to matter because we’re starting to open up our states, and I think they’re going to open up very well”. There were a number of demonstrators wearing ‘Make America Great Again’ apparel and holding pro-Trump signs. They were calling to relax the COVID-19 measures and freedoms amidst widespread coronavirus. The demonstrators didn’t follow the social distancing guideline from the White House during their protests. They were advised not to gather 10 or more people to minimize the spread of coronavirus.

Trump said, “As far as protesters, you know, I see protesters for all sorts of things. And I’m with everybody. I’m with everybody”. He didn’t mention the name of states, but his view says they have gone too far with their coronavirus restrictions. Trump later suggested that Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer and Governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam have imposed some unnecessary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. It is noteworthy that both Whitmer and Northam are Democratic governors. President also said, “If you take Michigan, there were things in Michigan that I don’t think were necessary or appropriate, everyone knows that. I think the governor of Michigan, we’re getting along very well, but I think the governor of Michigan probably knows that”.
