Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden has won more votes than any other presidential candidate in American history. On Wednesday afternoon, he broke the previous record held by Barack Obama. His total count now stands just shy of 72.6 million votes in the 2020 election till Thursday afternoon. The former US President Obama set the record in 2008 when he received 69.4 million votes. Biden’s record-setting numbers reflect this year’s, especially high voter turnout. Presidential Election 2020 is on track to have the largest voter turnout in the past 10 decades. At least 102 million people voted prior to Election Day. Biden’s popular vote count will continue to grow over the coming days.

Point to be noted that key states like Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Georgia are still continuing to count mail-in votes. Experts believe that mail-in votes are expected to skew in favor of Biden. The Democrat candidate currently has 50.4% of all votes counted nationwide against President Trump’s 48% with more than 87% of votes counted. Trump’s campaign claimed election fraud and showed concerns over mail-in votes. President Trump also said he was winning from most states but the results suddenly changed their way after counting mail-in votes. It is important that Biden’s popularity may come from genuine fans, but it is also likely that many voters were motivated to cast a ballot against Donald Trump.

The supporters of Biden ranked the coronavirus as most important, while Trump’s supporters tended to rank the economy as the more pressing issue. The Exit polls showed the economy and the Covid-19 epidemic were among the top concerns for American voters. Whether or not Biden’s popularity translates to Electoral College votes remains to be seen. It is noteworthy that Democrat Hillary Clinton defeated Trump in the popular vote by 3 million votes in 2016. But, she ultimately lost the Electoral College and the Presidential Election 2016. Democrat Biden maintains a small lead in Nevada and is narrowing Trump’s lead over him in Pennsylvania and Georgia states.
